Arthropods are invertebrates. They have an exoskeleton, a segmented body, and jointed appendages. Beyond these requirements, arthropods are incredibly diverse. They are the largest organism population and phylum on Earth. Anywhere from 2 to 10 million species have been recogonized, and that number continues to grow yearly. Some common classes of arthropods are Crustacea, Arachnida, Myriapoda, and Insecta.
